What
is 4D & 4D Ultrasound?
"4D" is shorthand for "four-dimensional"- the
fourth dimension being time. As far as ultrasound is concerned, 4D
Ultrasound is the latest ultrasound technology and it is exclusive
to GE. 4D Ultrasound takes three-dimensional ultrasound images and
adds the element of time to the process. The result: Live Action images
of your unborn child. All First Look Sonogram facilities use GE 4D
machines exclusively.
Is
it safe?
Yes, 4D Ultrasound
utilizes sound waves to look inside the body. The technology is similar
to sonar. A probe placed on the body emits sound waves into the body,
listens for the return echo and generates an image. Extensive studies
over 30 years have found that ultrasound has not been shown to cause
any harm to mother or baby.
Does
this take the place of an ultrasound at my doctor’s office?
First Look
Sonogram requires that each patient has consulted with their respective
physician prior to participating in our service and that at no time
is this exam to be used in place of a complete diagnostic ultrasound.
A report and/or copies of the ultrasound can be forwarded to a patient’s
physician if either requested by that physician or if there are any
medical concerns during the evaluation of the ultrasound. The issues
that we are evaluating in the ultrasound session include a limited
diagnostic scan to confirm heartbeat, the number of babies in the
pregnancy, the position of the baby, and the placental location.
When
should I come in for a 4D ultrasound ?
We can determine
the Gender of your baby anytime after your 18th week of pregnancy.
We recommend that if you plan on having the full 4D ultrasound examination,
you have it performed between your 27th and 32nd week of pregnancy.
How
many guests can I bring to my ultrasound session?
Everyone who
comes for a sonogram is welcome to bring up to five (5) people to
share and enjoy the experience in our home theater viewing environment.
The benefits that you will share by viewing your unborn child will
result in prenatal bonding between mother, father, siblings and the
unborn child. All First Look Sonogram facilities are equipped with
home theatre viewing rooms in which you and guests can enjoy seeing
your baby.
Is
the 4D ultrasound covered by Insurance?
At this point,
insurance does not cover the costs of our ultrasounds. Since this
is an elective procedure and is not intended to be a replacement for
your doctor ordered ultrasound, you will need to pay the cost of this
ultrasound as an out of pocket expense. We accept cash, checks, American
Express, Visa, MasterCard, and debit cards.
What
credentials does a sonographer have at First Look Sonogram?
First Look
Sonogram only employs sonographers that are registered diagnostic
medical sonographers. All our technologists must have certification
by the The American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers®
(ARDMS®).
Do
I need an appointment?
Yes, all sonograms
will be performed by appointment only.
